“The Young Pope” has already shown a few episodes and although Pope Pius XIII’s (Jude Law) intent was unclear at first, his identity is starting to become clear. The third episode of the series has shed some light about Pope Pius XIII’s agenda as the young pope has decided to be honest with Cardinal Gutierrez (Javier Camara) and Don Tomasso (Marcello Romolo). “The Young Pope” viewers are now starting to know the lead character better.

Pope Pius XIII has admitted on “The Young Pope” season 1 episode 3 that he did not choose to be a priest because he felt God was calling him. The reason he chose such life was merely for the fact that he was an orphan raised in a Catholic orphanage and it felt like priesthood would be the best career for him.

It turned out that Lenny Belardo is not a man of faith as what believers may expect from a young cardinal. Just like the majority, he faces faith crisis.

There is no miraculous reason, or story behind Belardo’s past. He is not even sure if he has to believe in God.

The Wrap has noticed another facet of Pope Pius XIII, his vindictiveness, which has been apparent during his argument with Voiello (Sylvio Orlando). Those who have seen the third episode of “The Young Pope” season 1 can recall that the leader of the Catholic Church has confronted Voiello because he wanted to know why he was picked to be the pope. He was pissed and did not understand the events that took him to where he is now.

It is expected that more of Pope Pius XIII will be revealed in the upcoming episodes of “The Young Pope.” The remaining episodes are slated to air Sundays and Mondays at 9PM in HBO in the US. Fans in Australia can catch up with “The Young Pope” through HBO GO.
