Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 is now official. Even though it features the most powerful MediaTek chip, it carries an amazingly low price tag.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 was announced on Aug. 13 in China. It is the new budget phone that comes with 5.5-inch screen that supports full HD resolution. According to Tech Crunch, the handset is available in two storage variants of 16 GB and 32 GB. Both of them are powered by MediaTek MT6795M chipset (also known as Helio X10).

On the 16 GB model, the processor of the Helio X10 produces a clocking speed of 2 GHz. And on the 32 GB model, it clocks at 2.2 GHz. The SoC is coupled with 2 GB of RAM. The 32 GB variant is referred to as Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Prime. Both the variants support expandable microSD storage.

The rear side of the device houses 13 MP camera and on the front, there is a selfie shooter of 5 MP. The device is preloaded with Android 5.0 Lollipop that is modified with the latest MIUI 7 proprietary software from the Chinese brand.

The thickness of the device is 8.25 mm and it measures 152 x 76 mm. Its weight is 160 grams. It is packed with a huge removable battery of 3,060 mAh capacity. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 is priced at $125 (AUD 169) and $155 (AUD 210) for the 16 GB and 32 GB models, respectively.

The Helio X10 chipset that powers the Redmi Note 2 is also available on the competitor Meizu MX5 handset. However, it costs two times more than Redmi Note 2. The HTC One M9+ flagship is also powered by the same chip and it carries an expensive full price tag of $700, Phone Arena reported.

Since the Redmi Note 2 is dual-SIM supporting budget smartphone, its chassis is made up of plastic. However, it comes in variety of colors such as black, white, blue, yellow and pink.
