Google has yet to complete the roll out of Android 5.0 Lollipop across its manufacturers although third party providers have also started releasing early and alternative downloads. Xiaomi is the most recent to receive a third party update with the Mi 2 shown running on stock Android 5.0 Lollipop while an unofficial AOSP Lollipop has been released.

Xiaomi has provided an Android 5.0 Lollipop AOSP build for its Mi 2/2s device. Despite the download, people should expect some missing MIUI features. It is also a completely stock Android. GSM Arena notes that the ROM does not have any major problems although users may have to deal with a number of bugs affecting overall user experience.

According to the official page of MIUI, people should expect the following bugs:

  • Making calls using Bluetooth headsets might cause system FC
  • CDMA SIM card is not perfectly supported
  • Dual system not recommended

Since the ROM is unofficial, people will have to flash the device manually. It will also not be released via Over-the-Air or OTA. Xiaomi has not provided details whether it will push an official roll out of the Android 5.0 Lollipop across its devices. For those who want to try out the update, they can find out more details via MIUI.

In another report by Gizbot, a Weibo user has uploaded an image of Xiaomi Mi 2 operating with vanilla Android 5.0 Lollipop. The user did not provide as much detail about what people should find on the image. However, the photo also shows that the device does not have a signal or a WiFi connection. This can mean that it is not a non-functional version. Despite hints about the Android 5.0 Lollipop reaching Xiaomi devices, it will not be official unless the company releases an announcement. Users are advised to stay tuned.
