Fresh rumours indicate that Xiaomi is going to announce the Mi 5 flagship device on Jan. 21. Since the Chinese manufacturer is now rumoured to launch two variants of its much-awaited flagship smartphone, speculations indicate that it may unveil Xiaomi Mi 5 and Xiaomi Mi 5 Plus on Jan. 21.

According to MyDrivers (a Chinese source), one of the models of Xiaomi Mi 5 will be arriving with a 5.2-inch display that will carry support for full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It will not feature a metallic chassis but will have a 2.5D curved glass on its front and back panels, Giz China reports.

It will be arriving with Snapdragon 820 chipset that will be supported by 3 GB of RAM. The native storage of this variant is speculated as 32 GB. This variant of the Xiaomi Mi 5 is dubbed the regular edition.

The other Xiaomi Mi 5 variant will also feature a 5.2-inch screen, but it will carry support for Quad HD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. It will be a premium model as it will feature a metallic chassis. Rumours suggest that this variant is called Xiaomi Mi 5 Plus.

According to GSM Arena, the device will have 64 GB internal storage. It will be powered by the same Snapdragon 820 chipset and 4 GB of RAM.

Both variants are likely to sport the same 16 MP rear camera that will feature optical images stabilisation function. Both smartphones are also going to feature front-facing camera of 5 MP. The other common features of both the alleged Xiaomi Mi 5 and Mi 5 Plus smartphones include fingerprint scanner and Android 6.0 Marshmallow customised with MIUI 7.0 UI from Xiaomi.

In addition, the Xiaomi Mi 5 will have a battery of 3600 mAh. The premium model may feature a slightly bigger battery. After launching the purported Xiaomi Mi 5 and Xiaomi Mi 5 Plus on Jan. 21, both smartphones will be available for purchase in February.
