Xiaomi teased the Mi 5 smartphone on its Weibo account late last month and the grapevine’s now saying this new phone will have 3D Touch-like pressure sensitive technology.

A report claims the Xiaomi Mi 5 will probably introduce Xiaomi’s version of 3D Touch. This development will make Xioami the latest to join the 3D Touch bandwagon that includes the iPhone 7 and Samsung Galaxy S7.

Last month on Weibo, Xiaomi posted a teaser image that shows a new white-coloured handset resembling the Mi Note. The image’s caption, however, didn’t identify the smartphone’ name. The white-coloured, metal frame handset shows the bezel-less display and at the top left corner bears the 'Mi' logo. There’s also the Xiaomi Yeelight bedside lamp.

Last year, five images of the Xiaomi Mi4 were leaked via Phone Arena, and the current leaked images of the Xiaomi Mi5 looks similar to earlier leaked images.

Word has it an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 SoC will power the Xiaomi Mi 5.This chipset was last seen on the Mi Note Pro. The grapevine, however, suggests the device will have the Snapdragon 820 SoC.

During the launch event for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and Mi Pad 2, questions were raised about Xiaomi Mi 5. Responding to it, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun claimed the handset "is worth the wait" and is "very, very good".

Jun, however, didn’t reveal any plans to announce the Mi 5, instead revealing Xiaomi is revamping its development cycle.

A separate report stated that Xiaomi probably use the MediaTek deca-core Helio X20 processor due to a delay in Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 chipsets. The purported innards of the Mi 5 suggest 4 GB of RAM along with a 5.3-inch QHD (1440 x 2560) pixel resolution and an Adreno 530 GPU.

Internal storage will come to 16 GB or 64 GB without an expandable storage option. The Mi 5 could sport a 16 MP rear camera with dual-LED flash backed by a 3030mAh battery.
