The appearance of En Sabah Nur aka Apocalypse at the post-credits scene from "X-Men: Days of Future Past" plays a vital role in the X-Men film franchise's history. Written here are the X-Men characters' origins, and important events.

Note: The years written below are all based on the film's timeline.

It all started with DOFP's post credit scene with En Sabah Nur creating the ancient pyramids in Egypt. Apocalypse's beginnings was speculated to have happened around 3000 B.C., according to 25 Moments.com. He also had the company of the Four Horsemen at that time.

In 1832, James Howlett (Wolverine) was born to John and Elizabeth Howlett in the North-Western Territories, which was later known as Canada.

Then in 1845, Thomas Logan and Victor Creed (Sabretooth) went to the Howlett's estate residence. Logan shot and killed John Howlett in their dispute. James let out his bone claws for the first time, and shortly killed Logan. Before passing away, Logan revealed to James that he was his real father.

Erik Lehnsherr (Magneto) first awakened his powers in 1944. When Erik was only 12 years old, he was sent to a Nazi concentration camp in Poland. Sebastian Shaw discovered Erik's powers and further drew it out by killing the boy's mother.

In the same year, Charles Xavier met Raven Darkholme (Mystique) for the first time inside the Xaviers' mansion. 12-year old Charles caught 10-year-old Mystique looting food in their mansion. But Charles befriended Raven and convinced her to live in the mansion.

In 1962, Charles and Erik met for the first time in "X-Men: First Class." Later, Magneto exacted revenge against Sebastian Shaw by killing him with a coin. Magneto parted ways with Prof X, and formed the Brotherhood of Mutants.

In 1965, Prof X opened the School for Gifted Youngsters. The school also served as a safe haven for young mutants who wanted to study and develop their mutant abilities.

In 1973, James "Logan" Howlett acted as a bodyguard for a Mafia Lord's daughter. During this year, Professor X and Hank McCoy are the only remaining X-Men in America.

In the same year, Mystique killed Bolivar Trask, and was later captured by William Stryker. In the same year, Trask Industries began production of the Sentinel Mark I program.

In 1979, Team X went on a mission to retrieve a meteor containing the origins of the Adamantium element. Later, James left the group, and began using his biological father's last name, Logan.

In 1981, Professor X and Magneto were reunited to recruit Jean Grey. When Jean Grey was recruited, she became one of the members of the modern X-men.

In 1987, Logan went through the Weapon X program to inject his skeleton with Adamantium. This was also the first time he adopted the alias, "Wolverine." Logan fought Wade Wilson aka Deadpool at Stryker's facility on Three Mile Island.

In 1996, Trask Industries' X-Gene testing led to a global epidemic. Attempts to make a cure for the X-gene failed, which caused a widespread sickness called the Mad Cow Disease.

In 2005, Rogue ran away from Professor X's school and later met Wolverine in "X-Men." Then Rogue and Wolverine later joined the X-Men. The X-Men fought against the Brotherhood of Mutants.

In 2006, Nightcrawler attacked the White House for Mutant freedom in "X2: X-Men United." Magneto later escaped his prison and joined forces with the X-Men. Jean Grey was killed after X-Men's attack on Stryker's base at Alkali Lake.

Later that year, Jean Grey was resurrected as the Phoenix in "X-Men: Last Stand." Phoenix killed Professor X and later joined Magneto. During the X-Men and Brotherhood of Mutants' battle, Wolverine ultimately killed Phoenix. Professor X then transferred his consciousness into his twin brother's comatose body.

In 2011, Wolverine lived as a hermit for five years in "The Wolverine." He still bore the guilt for killing Jean Grey. Wolverine faced Silver Samurai in this series and ultimately defeated him.

In 2012, Clarice Ferguson aka Blink rescued 30 mutants out of the Trask prison camps using her teleportation-dimension abilities.

In 2013, Trask Labs deployed Sentinel Mark X, which has the ability to shape shift and adapt to environments.

Fast forward to 2023, many of the mutants have already died because of the Sentinel Mark X's advancement. Wolverine's return to the past proved to be the best decision for the mutants as it changed the past and it resulted to a new future where almost all of the X-Men were alive once again.

A new future was set for the X-Men after the events in DOFP. New and endless possibilities wait for the X-Men film franchise, which will include the "X-Men: Apocalypse" film due 2016.
