Australian actor Kodi Smit-McPhee has reportedly joined the cast of Bryan Singer’s “X-Men Apocalypse.” The 18-year-old actor will play the role of young Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler.

Bryan officially announced the news of Kodi’s casting through his official Instagram account. “Excited to welcome @kodismitmcphee to the cast of #XmenApocalypse as young #Nightcrawler. @alexvaughanphoto,” he wrote alongside the photo of the young actor.

Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler is an indigo-coloured mutant that is endowed with teleporting powers, according to the comic books. He is dexterous and can attach himself to anything with the help of his adhesive feet and hands. His dark blue skin helps him camouflage during nighttime, and he has two-toed feet and three-fingered hands. The character of Nightcrawler was last portrayed by Alan Cumming in “X2: X-Men United.”

The storyline of Kodi’s character is not yet known; however, Empire Online notes that he may aid Xavier, Magneto and Mystique against the supervillain Apocalypse. Kodi has previously worked in films like “The Road,” “Let Me In” and “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.” It will reportedly be interesting to see him in the costume and blue make-up of Nightcrawler. The rep of the actor is yet to comment on the actor’s inclusion in the cast of the famous X-Men franchise.

“X-Men: Apocalypse” is currently in its pre-production stage. The film stars Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Channing Tatum, Evan Peters, Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy and more. Plot details have not yet been revealed.

Meanwhile, Singer also shared an art concept from the film on his Instagram account. He captioned it with, "Some production art. #XmenApocalypse #GrantMajor I was a little busy but will continue to snap more."

Though he did not reveal any information about the art piece, reports say that it could be related to Apocalypse. It features a red-coloured spaceship with a human-like figure standing in front of it. According to Comicbook, the ship could belong to the main villain Apocalypse. The website further notes that according to the story of Apocalypse, the advanced equipment of the ship is used by En Sabah Nur to turn into Apocalypse. It is not known whether Singer will be using the same storyline in his film. “X-Men: Apocalypse” is scheduled to be released on May 19, 2016.
