The “X-Files” 2016 reboot will not be showing Gillian Anderson in dyed red hair. Instead, the actress was forced to wear a wig to keep Scully a redhead. Meanwhile, David Duchovny has earlier said the first episode of the reboot is “fantastic” and he expects “monsters” in the show’s six episodes.

Asked about wearing a wig on the “X-Files” reboot, Anderson expressed amusement over all the attention her hair has been getting. She said she intended to dye her hair red days before filming. She found out, however, that her hair has already suffered more than the normal amount of treatments.

Anderson told Entertainment Weekly her hair started falling out a year ago while she was filming “The Fall.” Since Anderson would have to go back to blonde for “The Fall” Season 3, the actress’ hair stylist said dying her red hair for “X-Files” could cause serious harm to her scalp.

Anderson stressed her “X-Files” wig is a good one, although it causes headaches. She told EW that fans should know she is not taking Dana Scully’s hair lightly.

“I mean, every day, I have a whopping headache. And so I’m paying for that decision. I want all the fans to know that I’m suffering for the red,” Anderson told EW. The actress is currently playing blonde Bedelia in “Hannibal” Season 3.

For his part, Anderson’s co-star David Duchovny was looking forward to filming “monster of the week episodes.” The actor said he was only making speculations based on the classic episodes of “X-Files.” Still, he expressed confidence the audience could expect monsters and mythologies in the show’s 2016 reboot.

Fox confirmed “X-Files” 2016 earlier in the year. Filming kicked off mid-June. Prior to filming, Duchovny has told the media he got emotional after reading the script of the first episode.
