While Demi Lovato was tied up at another audition for ‘X-Factor USA 2013 last week, the news of her father’s death broke out, bringing sadness to the 20-year-old Latina singer.

Patrick Lovato died of cancer, according to Yahoo! OMG. The “Heart Attack” hit maker’s sister, Dallas then took to Twitter and shared the news on the social network.

“Rest in peace daddy I love you,” Dallas said in her post, according to Yahoo.

There is no indications how Demi’s schedule with X-Factor would be affected by the sad turn of event in her life. This is not the first time Demi lost her father.

Her fans had earlier known of Demi’s father, through her song, “For the Love of a Daughter,” which she wrote for her album, “Unbroken.” The song looks into Demi’s the years she had grown up without her father.

Growing up, which she said wasn’t easy, was not without with her fair share of troubles: from drug substance to eating disorder issues to weight loss (gain) concerns.

At the B96 Pepsi Summer Bash concert held in Chicago last weekend, Demi thanked her fans for all the love she received from then as she was struggling through this pace of her life.

Meanwhile, the singer may have lost her dad but she certainly has something to look forward too as she discovered early this year that she had another sister.

The singer has a half-sister who is younger than her on her mother’s side. Her name is Madison de La Garza. But she had learned early this year that she still has another sister, who is older than her.

"I just got to know … I have an older sister that I've never known my whole life. She's in her 30s. She's my half-sister. I talked to her for the very first time in my life around when I turned 20,” Demi was quoted as saying by Dana & Jeffrey in the Morning show.

The X-Factor judge shared her exchange with the newfound sister when they met.

"I asked her, 'Why haven't you ever contacted me?' She just said, 'Well, because I never wanted you to think that I wanted anything from you,” Demi said.

“So I've just kind of been waiting to see if you wanted a relationship. I thought that was so incredible. So I actually have three sisters!"
