Tuesday was a heartbreaking night for fans of “X-Factor Australia” Season 7, given the double elimination round which saw the departure of Jimmy Davis and Georgia Denton from the competition.

The double elimination round was a first for “X-Factor Australia,” according to Rickey.org. It automatically sent home the contender with the lowest votes after Monday’s “Top 10 Hits” performance, while the two others on the bottom list battled it out in a singing showdown.

Unfortunately, Denton’s rendition of the Jackson 5’s “I’ll Be There” during Monday’s live show was not enough to gain votes from fans to keep her safe from eliminations. The 15-year-old aspiring singer landed at the bottom slot of this week’s voting list and was eliminated from the Season 7 of “X-Factor Australia.”

The other two on the bottom list were Davis and Mahalia Simpson, and the they sang their hearts out during Tuesday’s live decider “X-Factor Australia” show. Simpson impressed the judges with her soulful rendition of Porgy & Bess’ “Summertime.” However, Davis’ performance of Elton John’s “Rocket Man” just wasn’t stellar enough to gain the judges’ votes. “X-Factor Australia” judges Dannii Minogue, James Blunt and Guy Sebastian opted to send the 21-year-old contestant home.

Judge and mentor Chris Isaak told Davis that he’s hoping they’ll get the chance to “play together” and that the singer will remember his mentor, news.com.au reported. “I’m just hoping that when Jimmy is playing arenas that he will remember me,” he said. “And that I was your friend and mentor and I hope we get to play together.”

“X-Factor Australia” fans also took to Twitter to share their disappointment over seeing Davis and Denton go. In the singing competition’s official Twitter account, fans wished the two “good luck” and wrote how “horrible” it is to see the two leave the competition.

Twitter user bon koffman wrote, “@GEORGIADENTON_ @JimmyTheButt neither of you should have gone home but they are playing a game no matter how horrible it is.”

Meanwhile, the eight contenders who were declared safe this week were Cyrus Villanueva, Jess & Matt, Louise Adams, Bit T, In Stereo, Michaela Baranov, Natalie Conway and Simpson.

The next episode of “X-Factor Australia” Season 7 will air on Monday with a rock theme performance.
