Woolworths, Australia’s largest supermarket chain, has entered into a partnership deal with Telstra. This wholesale supply agreement with the telecommunications and media giant will allow Woolworths to become a mobile virtual network operator, or MVNO again.

The agreement with Telstra will enable Woolworths to use the company’s 3G network, including its 850MHz and 2100MHz spectrum to provide better services as a MVNO. Earlier, the grocery chain introduced Woolworths Mobile to its customers. It was in collaboration with Optus. Unfortunately, that deal didn’t pan out and it was ended in October 2013.

The official website of Telstra published a media release about its deal with Woolworths. A statement from Telstra Wholesale Group Executive, Stuart Lee, was included in it. Lee spoke about how thrilled Telstra is to be working with Woolworths.

“Our wholesale product gives companies like Woolworths that want to operate as virtual network operators the network access and operating platform they need to offer mobile services direct to retail customers,” Mr. Lee said in Telstra’s media release.

Jason Hair, Woolworths’ Telco head, also spoke about his company’s partnership with Telstra. Hair said that Woolworths is aware of how much their customers want convenience, simplicity and great value on a network that is trusted by many.

“This relationship is the first step for Woolworths on the road to delivering a straightforward, high quality and value-driven service for our customers. We look forward to providing more details on our offer in the coming weeks,” Mr. Hair said in the same media release.

The Australian reports that aside from Woolworths, Telstra also has agreements with Aldi Supermarkets, Aldi Mobile, Think Mobile, LycaMobile and Telechoice.
