"Breaking Bad" executive-producer/director Michelle MacLaren is reportedly in talks to direct "Wonder Woman." The film is being produced by Charles Roven and is slated to release on June 23, 2017. This news about MacLaren being considered to helm the much ambitious project has come after director Lexi Alexander of "Punisher: War Zone's" fame quashed the rumours that she was asked to direct the film.

Speaking to Forbes, Alexander said that she was never offered a chance to direct "Wonder Woman." She was not keen on helming the project and barred her manager from forwarding her name to the production house.

"Imagine the weight on my shoulders. How many male superhero movies fail? So now, we finally get Wonder Woman with a female director; imagine if it fails," Alexander said, explaining why she would not have taken the film if offered.

Alexander also hinted about the gender inequality in the film industry. She said that there is no reason for any female director to say yes to the film, as there is a huge pressure to turn it into a success. Alexander's reasons for not directing the film triggered fans' backlast against her on social media.

Here are some of the twitter reactions:

Honestly, for me the months-long debate on Lexi Alexander boils down to this: If a man had her filmography I wouldn't hire him, either.

Meanwhile, there is not much known about "Wonder Woman's" storyline, though the popular comic book character is set to make an appearance in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," which is slated to release in March 2106. The plot line of the film may originate from Zack Snyder's movie; however, nothing is yet confirmed.

Talking of MacLaren, Warner Bros. EVP of Production and Development Greg Silverman, is reportedly a big fan of her work. According to Variety, Silverman has been trying to find a right big screen project for her and it seems "Wonder Woman" could be the one.

MacLaren has made a name for herself in the television industry. She has helmed 11 out of 62 episodes of "Breaking Bad." She has even directed three episodes of "The Walking Dead," and four of "Game of Thrones." Meanwhile, apart from "Wonder Woman," there are slew of other movies, which are currently on the DC's slate, including "Justice League" films, "The Flash," "Green Lantern," "Aquaman" and the others.
