Gal Gadot has shared the first picture of herself in costume for the movie “Wonder Woman.” The actress also officially announced the start of filming on social media.

“Almost 75 years in the making… #WonderWoman is underway,” Gadot said on Twitter. It was recently revealed that filming of the movie has already begun, after cast member Said Taghmaoui shared a behind-the-scenes picture of him and fellow cast member Chris Pine (Steve Trevor) on social media. Taghmaoui, however, later deleted the picture.

Gadot was referring to the first appearance of the character in a comic book in 1941, when she said that the movie was 75 years in the making. The 1940s was mostly dominated by male superheroes. Diana Prince, the alter ego of the superhero, was made popular by Lynda Carter in a popular TV series that aired in the 1970s.

Before appearing as the superhero in “Wonder Woman,” Gadot will be seen playing the role in “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” directed by Zack Snyder. The costume of the superhero in the solo movie appears to be similar to the one in Snyder’s movie. Gadot can be seen wearing a similar head piece and bracelets.

The character could have appeared in a movie years ago, but George Miller’s “Justice League Mortal” was cancelled. Megan Gale was expected to play the role of the female superhero in the cancelled movie. A picture of Gale in a Wonder Woman costume, posted on The Wrap, shows the costume that the actress would have worn in the movie. The actress can be seen wearing a blue skirt, corset, head piece and bracelets.

The forthcoming “Wonder Woman” is being directed by Patty Jenkins and the script has been written by Jason Fuchs, who has also written the script for “Ice Age: Continental Drift.” The movie is slated to be released in 2017.
