Editor's Note: The original story was inadvertently picked up from a parody account. [George R.R. Martin has confirmed that he is still writing "Winds of Winter," but hasn't made any statements about Lyanna Mormont.] We regret the error.

Another popular character’s death may be featured in “Winds of Winter.” George R.R. Martin hinted at this possibility while giving an update on the progress of his book. The author has still not announced a possible release date or the book.

[Spoiler alert]

Things don’t look good for Lyanna Mormont in the next book in “A Song of Ice and Fire” book series. The character became a big hit after “Game of Thrones” Season 6. The young, but ferociously outspoken character instantly won the hearts of the viewers.

Martin noted that the fans have come to love Lyanna and commented on it on his official Twitter page. The comment came with a wink, which got some of the fans worried. The author is notorious for killing of characters that the readers tend to fall in love with.

The author had previously joked that every time he gets asked about when he will finish the next book he kills a Stark. Martin admitted that after killing of so many characters from the family; he is “running out of Starks.” So, the supporters of the popular family may be next in line in “Winds of Winter.”

One of the biggest and perhaps the crucial support to the Stark family comes from House Mormont. In the TV series Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) had some difficulty in dealing with the young Lyanna (Bella Ramsey). The formidable character has very few men, but she made the Starks work hard to get her support. In the end she chose to honour the commitment of her House and joined the war.

In a recent tweet, Martin said that he just finished a chapter in “Winds of Winter” from Lyanna Mormont’s point of view. The author teased that while he enjoyed writing the chapter, the readers may not. Did the author tease another death? Or is he just toying with the minds of his fans to keep them on the edge?
