Has Brienne served her purpose in the books? Is it time for her to die? These are some of the questions lingering in the minds of fans who look forward to the release of "Winds of Winter." The fate of many of the characters hangs in the balance as fans wonder who the author will kill next.

Brienne has had a strong influence on the personality of Jamie Lannister. The two characters are seen to be getting close to each other. But the recent events in the book put the characters in a dangerous situation.

Brienne was asked by Lady Stone Heart to kill Jamie Lannister in "A Feast for Crows." She was later seen asking Jamie to accompany her alone to "save Sansa," in "A Dance with Dragons." Sansa Stark was last seen at the Vale and many see Brienne's words as a ploy to lure Jamie away.

Some of the fans are hoping to see Brienne and Jamie end up together. According to some of the members of Westeros Forum, Brienne could betray and kill Lady Stone Heart in "Winds of Winter" and show her love for Jamie.

Lady Stone Heart is Catlyn Stark reborn. She is out to get revenge on the Freys and the Lannisters for the Red Wedding, where her son Robb Stark was murdered. Brienne had sworn an oath to her to find her daughters and safely return them to her.

Lady Stone Heart had given Brienne a choice—she could either promise to kill Jamie or she would be hanged. She had initially chosen to hang, but at the last moment changed her decision and agreed to kill Jamie.

Some of the fans of the series wonder if it will, in fact, be Jamie who will end up killing Brienne in "Winds of Winter." The argument is that the death would further drive Jamie's path to redemption and righteousness.

Fans think the probability of one of the characters among Lady Stone Heart, Jamie Lannister and Brienne of Tarth dying is high in "Winds of Winter." Will this be one of the big twists in the next book? Fans of the series are waiting with bated breath with the hope that their favourite character does not die.
