With the start of another season of “Game of Thrones,” the HBO TV series threatens to reveal more spoilers from “Winds of Winter.” George RR Martin, however, has confirmed that he has plot twists in his book that will not be featured on the show.

Replying to a concerned fan on his blog, Martin confirmed that he has a few twists in his book not a part of the TV series. Since the author is yet to complete his book, and since he constantly rewrites chapters he has already written, he can make necessary changes to make the story just as interesting as before, even though fans would know the ending by the time he is done.

Martin is also closely involved in the TV series. Although he has mostly taken a backseat in the past few years, not writing scripts for any of the episodes, he keeps himself informed about what executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are doing. So the author knows about all the big twists on the show.

The producers and Martin often pointed out that the series has taken a different direction, deviating from the books to a large extent. Some major characters in the books are missing on the show. Some of the characters that have died on show are still alive in the books and vice versa. Therefore, there is still an element of surprise left in the books.

Even if Martin manages to deliver “Winds of Winter” by the end of the year or before the premiere of “Game of Thrones” season 8, there is still the last book in “A Song of Ice and Fire” he will have to write. While the show and the books are taking different routes, they are still heading towards the same destination. In the end, fans of the books will learn the conclusion of the story from the TV series.
