Last month, Microsoft announced to roll out Windows 10 Anniversary Update to to PCs, tablets, phones, Xbox One, Microsoft HoloLens and IoT. The Redmond-based tech company is yet to confirm the official release date of the update.

However, the update will be free for all Windows 10 users, wrote Terry Myerson, executive vice president of Windows and Devices Group at Microsoft, in a blog post.

Since its launch in July 2015, Windows 10 is running over 270 million active devices, superseding Windows 7 in the same timeframe by 145 percent, confirmed Microsoft.

The Windows 10 Anniversary Update will bring in tweaks and improvements to the existing features along with a new range of innovative features, primarily focused on business users.

Windows Ink

“Windows Ink is an all-new experience, putting the power of Windows in the tip of your pen,” wrote Myerson. It will enable users to write on the device just like they do on paper.

Windows Ink will be integrated into apps such as Maps, Microsoft Edge and Office.

Windows Hello

Windows Hello will introduce biometric security to Windows apps and Microsoft Edge browser. Users will now be able to sign into the device with enterprise-grade security, claims Microsoft.

Smarter Cortana

Apart from the nearly 1,000 Cortana-enabled apps, Microsoft launched a new Cortana Collection in the Windows Store for all users. The Windows 10 Anniversary Update will make Cortana more proactive than ever.

The personal digital assistant will now be placed above the lock screen, making it more accessible for common tasks.

Dark Theme and virtual desktop pin

The Windows 10 Anniversary update will introduce few new tweaks to the desktop. There will be a new dark theme for those who do not prefer brighter desktops. Users can change the theme from Settings > Personalisation > Colours.

Moreover, Windows 10’s virtual desktop will now allow users to pin an open app, as reported by PC World.

Cortana coming to Xbox One

With the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, Microsoft is said to enhance the overall gaming experience of Xbox One. The update will bring in Cortana as the new personal gaming assistant and help the user will tips, tricks and suggestions.
