Roger Federer has been a football fan for a long time and after his win on Wednesday’s Wimbledon quarterfinal match against Giles Simon, the Swiss international did not waste the chance to meet Manchester United’s David de Gea. The Red Devils’ goalkeeper joined his Spanish teammates, Juan Mata and Ander Herrera, to watch the yearly tournament at All England club.

Federer, who was ranked No. 2 in the world by the Association of Tennis Professionals, defeated Simon in their quarterfinal round 6-3, 7-5, 6-2. The trio of de Gea, Mata, and Herrera was seen on Centre Court During Andy Murray’s 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 disposal of Canadian Vasek Pospisil before meeting with Federer on the competitor’s lawn to talk about Federer’s home team, Basel, and Manchester United’s upcoming pre-season tour in the west coast of United States according to reports of ATPworldtour.com.

De Gea, who has been reportedly linked to a move to Real Madrid with a transfer window deal of £28.6 million, posted a picture of him with Federer on his Twitter account, while Spanish playmaker Mata also took the social media platform to show his portrait with the Swiss Maestro as per Thesportreview.com.

Mata’s meet and greet with the Wimbledon casts did not end with the 33-year-old tennis legend. The midfielder caught up with doubles finalist and Manchester United fan Jamie Murray, who, along with teammate John Peers, defeated the pair of Jonathan Erlich and Philipp Petzschner 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.

“It’s been amazing. I always wanted to come to Wimbledon but I never could because we are now in pre-season so sometimes we were abroad. But today was unbelievable. The atmosphere and feeling here is something special,” Mata said.

Federer will face world's no. 1 Novak Djokovic in the final round of Men’s Singles category on Sunday, while the Murray-Peers duo will square up with the tandem of Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau for the championship of Wimbledon Men’s Doubles on July 11.
