Roger Federer will begin his campaign for an eighth Wimbledon title, his 19th grand slam trophy, against unseeded Damir Dzumhur in the opening round. It will only be the second time that the duo will meet on tour. The last time that Federer and Dzumhur had met was in the third round of the 2015 French Open where the Swiss saw off the Bosnian youngster with a straight sets victory. Federer leads their head-to-head series 1-0.

Federer enters the Wimbledon with a rejuvenated energy. The 17-time grand slam champion opted to take a rest and recover after claiming his eight trophy at the Gerry Weber Open in Halle, Germany. It was the second tournament that Federer took part in following his quarterfinals exit to fellow compatriot Stan Wawrinka 6-4 6-3 7-6 at the 2015 French Open.

The Swiss father-of-four is the second seed and will come to SW19 with a win-loss record of 34-6 this season including titles won at the Brisbane International, Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, and BNP Paribas Istanbul Open.

Last year, Federer made it to the final, but lost to Novak Djokovic, who won his second Wimbledon trophy. It was Federer’s 25th appearance in the final of a grand slam tournament. It was also the second time that the Swiss tennis great became a runner-up in the said grand slam tennis event.

Meanwhile, Dzumhur will be making his debut at SW19. Dzumhur has a 7-6 win-loss record going into his opening round match on Tuesday. After losing to Federer in their third round contest at the Roland Garros, the 23-year-old Sarajevo native decided to take part in a claycourt Challengers event at the Hoff Open in Moscow, Russia, but lost to Argentine Horacio Zeballos 7-6 6-3 in the quarterfinals.

Dzumhur is ranked 88th in the latest world rankings. He achieved his career-high singles ranked as World No. 81 in May 2015. Dzumhur’s grand slam appearances include reaching the third round of the 2014 Australian Open, first round of the 2014 US Open, and third round of the 2015 French Open. He has 4 Challengers titles and 12 Futures titles.
