Residents in the Lower Garden District in New Orleans, US, get a surprise as a Pokemon statue suddenly appeared in their local square. The mysterious statue said to have appeared overnight features the popular character Pikachu from Pokemon.

As reported by WDSU, the 45 feet tall Pikachu monument was placed in an old fountain in a small park in the local neighbourhood. The status is reportedly crafted from fiberglass and is hollow inside. Instead of painting it into the same color as the yellow-coloured character, the statue is made to look like aged bronze. The hashtag #pokemonument is also found at the foot of the statue and it is unclear whether it was originally placed there or was added later.

The city officials have not yet identified the creator of the statue. According to TIME, the guerrilla art piece is technically considered vandalism, but the decision whether to let the statue dubbed as Pokemonument stay erected or taken out is yet to be announced. For now, nobody seems to mind. In fact, the crowd seems to love the curious attraction. People are flocking to the square to see and even take selfies with it.

The Pokemonument features Pikachu, the most iconic character of the animation “Pokemon” and is now turned into the most sought-after creature in the augmented reality game Pokemon Go.

In celebration for the growing popularity of Pokemon and its app game Pokemon Go, it was noted that the Pokemonument could have most likely been built by a Pokemon super-fan, Mirror reports.

“Pokemon Go” has been rounding up headlines and has been luring Android users since its release. The challenging and addicting game has been subject to numerous controversies having allegedly endangered the lives of gamers. Moreover, it has received multiple complaints with its unresolved glitches and unmet promises. In spite of all these things, the fandom of Pokemon continues to grow these days, and the non-approved Pikachu statue could very well serve as an example to this Pokemon phenomenon.
