The natural wonder of the hot spring in the Yellowstone National Park in the US, also known as the Morning Glory, has changed its colour from crystal blue to bright yellow-green colour, thanks to the accumulated coins, debris and rubbish.

The place has now been dubbed as the “Fading Glory” from the earlier known “Morning Glory” because it has lost its charm since the 1950s.

The reason for the changing colour of the natural wonder has been attributed to the unintentional human intervention by the tourists who visit the Wyoming national park each year. With a desire to have good luck, tourists make a wish by throwing coins and rocks, which in turn gets accumulated at the bottom of the spring.

This act has reportedly blocked the natural vents in the hot spring and has allegedly slowed down the circulation of the water. This impacts the temperature of the water that has dropped below average, hence dragging the orange-coloured bacteria towards the centre of the spring. Therefore, the colour of the hot spring has turned orange over the period of time.

"Pigments produced by swaths of those microbes—called microbial mats—are responsible, at least in part, for the brilliant yellows, greens, and oranges that now tinge Morning Glory and other thermal pools in Yellowstone," reported Adam Hoffman from the Science Friday.

Yellowstone is famous for its underlying supervolcano, that has a tendency to swipe the entire civilisation upon eruption.
