ABC scraps 'Agent Carter' season 3 and 'Marvel's Most Wanted'

ABC recently shared why it decided not to proceed with “Agent Carter” Season 3 and “Marvel’s Most Wanted.”

Actress Hayley Atwell and Channing Dungey, ABC Entertainment president, both appeared at the Television Critics Association press tour to promote the new series “Conviction” on ABC. Aside from talking about the upcoming show, they also shared some information on why the network decided not to air the third season of “Agent Carter” and the “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” spin-off, “Marvel’s Most Wanted.”

Variety reveals that ABC is reconsidering its approach to Marvel adaptations and may subsequently eliminate its current Marvel shows to focus more on interlocking programs, as done by Netflix. Dungey said that “Marvel’s Most Wanted” ultimately did not feel as strong as some of the other pilots that they shot.

They discussed the matter with Marvel and they all agreed that they want the next show that they do together will be something that they feel creatively strong about. He continued that “Marvel’s Most Wanted” was a joint partnership between Marvel and ABC Studios, but he is very open to the idea of the show launching in another network if possible. He said that they are currently looking at various projects, including those that they have worked on before and those that are completely new and IP.

Slashfilm reports that as for the Marvel-ABC project “Agent Carter,” it was creatively successful because it had a short but exciting run, as well as a great cast of talented actors. Atwell mentioned that she is still open to reappearing on the show if ABC decides to create a third season.

“Agent Carter” ended its second season while the character, Peggy Carter (Atwell), died in the present day time just before the events of “Captain America: Civil War.” There are still opportunities for her to return, but ABC noted that they have a great new project and wish for viewers to be at the center of it all.

In the meantime, ABC viewers can look forward to the network featuring more close-ended stories and dramas. ABC also plans to continue showcasing diversity in its slate of shows. Meanwhile, check out the trailer for "Conviction," which also stars Hayley Atwell, here.
