One of the producers for the 85th Academy Awards has confirmed that Hollywood’s biggest award giving event has been “rebranded” as “The Oscars.”

Calling it “musty,” Neil Meron, a producer working for The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) revealed the changes made for this year’s awards’ show, noting that this change could “carry on for the years to come.”

"We're rebranding it," Meron was quoted as saying by The Australian, citing an interview Meron had with entertainment news website, “The Wrap.”

Meron revealed: “We're not calling it 'The 85th annual Academy Awards,' which keeps it mired somewhat in a musty way. It's called 'The Oscars' ."

AMPAS officials have yet to confirm the revelation made by Meron. The unnamed official has admitted however, that Academy Awards has been “interchangeably” with the “Oscars.”

"We use Academy Awards and the Oscars interchangeably. We'll begin considering next year's marketing campaign in the spring," the Academy official said, added The Australian.

Promotional materials found on the web have spoken louder than what the Academy officials have offered.

One of the posters officially released to drum up the much-anticipated awards show exhibit an image of Seth Macfarlane - - the event’s host for this year - - designed below the text “The Oscars” printed in gold.

This is a big change compared to the posters released by the Academy last year. The Australian noted that the “84th Academy Awards” was clearly emblazoned in last year’s official poster.
