It’s hard to deny the fact that French knows what love is, given the fact that they are from the land of love. So it is not really surprising a scenario that the hottest and latest dating app called Happen has come out as a product right from Paris.

Since its arrival in France five months ago, Happen has found 150,000 users and within five weeks in UK, 25,000 people signed up for it.

“I have seen so many hot guys today that I wish I had been on happn,” tweeted one user. “Elle est top la nouvelle appli,” wrote another.

So the question remains, what exactly is a dating app?

It is pretty much defined as a more instant way to meet people. There’s no such hassle like filling up long questionnaires like old days. It works based on GPS technology in your smartphone. Signing up is too simple.

“All you have to do is supply the skimpiest of personal information (and your Facebook network), upload a picture or two, and you’ll be met with dozens of potential partners. 'Happen' operates within a radius of 250 m.”

“The app is meant for busy and shy people,” says Happen’s Marie Cosnard.

Happen works in the following way.

“When you cross paths with a fellow user, wherever you are, their profile photo pops up on your phone. If you click on it a small map comes up showing (roughly) where your paths crossed, along with their (scant) personal details (generally just their first name, age and profession). If you fancy the person, you click on a small red heart (known as a Like). If the feeling’s mutual the app announces “It’s a crush” and you can start messaging each other. If there’s no response, you have a last ditch option of sending the person a 'charm’. If it’s accepted, it’s a crush.”

Life has come a long way since granny’s good old days. Even love needs digital manipulation these days.

Is it good or bad? Too much dependence on technology- will it make us lonelier one day?

Only time will say. Till then enjoy a 'happen'ing life.
