The first lady of the U.S., Michelle Obama touched down at Haneda International Airport in Tokyo on March 18 wearing a Kenzo dress. She arrived in Japan on a five-day visit which will also include a visit to Cambodia later. Her choice of dress was appropriate for the occasion as the French fashion house was established by Japanese designer Kenzo Takada, according to People.

Beyond making a style statement through the dress, Michelle tried to bridge the gap between both the countries as the design house is now is currently helmed by American designers Humberto Leon and Carol Lim. The first lady had faced a lot of heat last year for not accompanying her husband Barack Obama on his official visit to Japan in April 2014. She is in Japan to campaign for education of girls. As part of the Let Girls Learn international girls’ education initiative, there would be an announcement of a partnership between both the countries.

The style icon made heads turn with her neon Kenzo number on touchdown. The flared dress was lime green in colour with white lines running lengthwise and bold black graphic prints. The knee length dress had long sleeves and a boat neck. It was cinched at the waist with a mirrored black belt. She accessorised her look with black high heels, a pair of danglers while her make-up was kept minimal with eyeliner and light pink lipstick with a hint of glimmer.

On March 19 Michelle sported a white and red floral dress with silver high-heels. The first lady of the U.S. made a bold colour statement with her custome-made skirt and blazer by New York-based designer Altuzarra. The ensemble consisted of a white sleeveless top which was encrusted with jewels from Stella McCartney and a red floral printed skirt with a matching jacket. The jacket had long sleeves and the skirt was knee-length. She accessorised her look with a pair of danglers and silver high heeled pumps. In terms of make-up she put eyeliner on both the upper and lower lids and used some lip gloss.

Michelle met the Japanese prime minister, Shinzo Abe and his wife Akie Abe. Later she also met emperor, Akihito and empress, Michiko at the Imperial Palace. She will leave for Cambodia on Friday. Both the dresses with their bright colours suggest that the spring look is in.
