WhatsApp voice calling has finally arrived for iOS users. The VOIP calling was exclusively available for Android users for the past couple of weeks. However, fresh reports state that the new WhatsApp version 2.12.1 for iPhone users brings support for voice calling.

According to the image of the new version of WhatsApp for iOS users published on Forbes, the WhatsApp calling feature allow users to make free calls to friends and family through the internet connection of the device. Hence, data charges are applicable.

The update may not come to all iOS users at once but it will be released gradually in the coming weeks. The new version of the instant messaging app also contains iOS 8 sharing extension that makes it possible for users to access WhatsApp through other apps on the iOS device to send content.

Inside chats, users can now access the new Quick camera button that can be used to quickly snap a photo or shoot a video to send to it the recipient. Also, users may also share a previously shot photo or video from the camera roll.

The version 2.12.1 that weighs 54.2 MB also allows users to edit the contacts stored on the device through WhatsApp. The new update also lets users to share multiple videos simultaneously. Uses can even also perform simple edits on the videos such as crop and rotate before sharing it to others.

Tech Crunch claims that the arrival of free voice calling feature on WhatsApp is going to upset a lot of service providers across the globe. It further states that instead of using SMS service from the operators, users now prefer to exchange more messages through WhatsApp.

In January, WhatsApp for web client was launched. It enables users to use WhatsApp on desktop PCs when their handsets are kept away. In the future, WhatsApp is expected to start voice calling feature for Windows Phone users too. With over 800 million active users each month, WhatsApp is the most preferred instant messaging app that is used for sharing content and exchanging with friends and family.
