Aug. 19, is now known as World Humanitarian Day, dedicated to recognize humanitarian personnel and those who have lost their lives working for humanitarian causes. It was designated by the United Nations General Assembly as part of a Swedish-sponsored GA Resolution A/63/L.49 on the Strengthening of the Coordination of Emergency Assistance of the United Nations, and set as 19 August. It marks the day on which the then Special Representative of the Secretary-General to Iraq, Sérgio Vieira de Mello and 21 of his colleagues were killed in the bombing of the UN Headquarters in Baghdad

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said during today's memorial ceremony.

"We commemorate their sacrifice and reaffirm our commitment to the life-saving work that humanitarians carry out around the world, every day, often in difficult and dangerous circumstances where others cannot or do not want to go,"

In honour of the special day, the organization assembled a photo gallery featuring aid workers who are trying to make life better for people in perilous situations.

The organisers hope to get support from people using the event website and Twitter to support ideas and make their own suggestions.

In adopting the resolution to set aside Aug. 19 as World Humanitarian Day, the U.N. General Assembly said it reaffirmed

"The principles of neutrality, humanity, impartiality, and independence for the provision of humanitarian assistance"

Indeed Beyonce is having a heart of Gold and she is a true philathropist.
