Singer-songwriter The Weeknd revealed how he pursued his girlfriend Bella Hadid and the state of their relationship.

The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, told RollingStone in an interview that he got turned down the first time he asked Hadid to be on the artwork for “Beauty Behind the Madness.” His motive at the time was to work with the model.

Tesfaye said the rejection didn’t stop him from admiring Hadid and to get to know her more. He explained that Hadid’s work ethics and close relationship with family struck him.

“It just kind of fell into my lap,” he said.

The “Earned It” singer claimed he “probably would’ve f----- it up” if he met Hadid two years ago. However, the singer said he now has “clear-thinking.”

Tesfaye, 25, and Hadid, 18 were confirmed dating in September when spotted holding hands outside the Up & Down nightclub in New York.

The singer-songwriter also talked about losing his virginity at the age of 16 to an older woman. Tesfaye said he was a college student at New York University at the time and was too drunk to think straight. He described it as his “worst experience” in life.

Tesfaye is known for his dark, sexy and numbed out music. His single, “The Hills,” currently sits No. 1 at the Billboard Hot 100.

He recently performed a remix of his hit single “The Hills” on the Amy Schumer-hosted episode of Saturday Night Live show. Tesfaye also released two remixes of “The Hills” with Nicki Minaj and Eminem on iTunes the same weekend.

His chart topping singles are “The Hills,” “Can’t Feel My Face” and “Earned It.”
