The World Boxing Council (WBC), which considers Floyd Mayweather Jr as its current welterweight title holder, has joined the growing list of boxing organisations and individuals that are pushing for Mayweather to box against Filipino champ Manny Pacquiao.

Pacquiao, who defended his WBO welterweight title on Nov 22 in Macau against Chris Algieri, is open, but it is Mayweather who one day says "yes" he may consider, and "no" the next day.

The WBC said in a statement, "The fight the world has been waiting to see, the fight that the world wants to see. The WBC fully supports the promotion of this fight which will certainly break all existing records in any areas."

Another group pushing for the dream match, oil-rich Arabs, is offering a guaranteed purse of $110 million for the two boxers to agree. According to Boxingscene, long-time boxing executive M. Akbar Muhammad from the United Arab Emirates made the generous offer on behalf of the group that wants to watch the fight in Dubai in 2015.

"There's absolutely no doubt that each fighter, individually, will receive more money than any other boxer has in the past," Muhammad said, hinting that the combined purse is even approaching $200 million.

Muhammad is the president and chief operating officer of Akbar Productions in New Jersey who started his boxing promotions career working with the boxer formerly known as Cassius Clay until the latter converted to Islam.

Muhammad said that besides the dream match, there would also be a live concert and a tribute to boxing icon Muhammad Ali who has expressed a desire for the dream match to happen.

WBC cited the Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson bout, also viewed then as an impossible match, which became possible because the camps of the two boxing champs agreed to talk. Both HBO and Showtime earned from the fight through pay-per-view sales.

A similar arrangement appears to be underway as Top Rank Promotions boss Bob Arum disclosed last week that no less than the big boss of CBS, the parent company of Showtime where Mayweather has two remaining fights slated in 2015 out of a 6-fight contract, is now talking with HBO where Pacquiao is under contract.

Boxing experts like Arum believe the real reason behind Mayweather's hesitancy in agreeing to box with Pacquiao is he would lose the opportunity to retire in 2015 with a 0 loss record, which was what Pacquiao shattered in the case of Algieri who also had a 20-0 record until last week's debacle in Macau.
