“Wayward Pines” season 2 ended last July and viewers have been raving to know if the show will still have a third season. While season 2 had lower viewer ratings compared to season 1, it looks like season 3 will push through although there is nothing official yet as to when it will happen.

CEO Dana Walden, when asked for her views regarding the future of the supernatural series, said that she definitely thinks that there could a third season. While it had already zoomed through and exhausted the source in Season 1, the show struggled with ratings in the second season. Despite this, Walden says that the show is still “the number 1 scripted show of the summer.”

Season 1 of hit a colossal 3.8 million viewer mark, while the second season did not perform so well with 2.4 million viewers and a 0.7 demo rating. Season 2, however, did really good in its finale, which drew 3.5 million viewers. It is reported that the decline in viewership was mainly due to a loose plot which many found frustrating or simply lacking in tension. It is reported that Fox is still waiting for the final numbers before deciding on the future of the show.

If “Wayward Pines” returns for a third season, viewers can anticipate a new beginning in the small town, which might take place after a thousand years and when the Abbies and humans are already at peace.

M. Night Shyamalan earlier said that he started the second season of “Wayward Pines” from scratch and that he just had to exert his creativity for the show. As of now, there are still no confirmations if “Wayward Pines” will, indeed, return for a third season. However, considering all that has been said, it looks like it will be returning sometime next year.
