There are rumours that “Wayward Pines” might still have a second season. No official announcement regarding its cancellation has been made, so fans are staying positive that the show producers will renew the TV series.

TV Line notes that the inaugural summer run of the thriller garnered strong ratings. Although there were talks that a second season is very likely because of the large demand from viewers, Fox has not confirmed anything at the moment. At present, “Wayward Pines” Season 2 has not yet been cancelled. It is reportedly likely that the show will return.

The first season of “Wayward Pines” ended with Ethan’s son, Ben (Charlie Tahan), waking up two years after Ethan (Matt Dillon) sacrificed himself to realise that the First Generation are already in control. Ben was in the same situation that his father was previously in at the start of the season.

Chad Hodge, showrunner of “Wayward Pines,” shared that it was very difficult to place the most interesting events in the three-book series into a single season. The whole final book was actually compressed into an episode lasting less than one hour. One component that was not in the books is the First Generation. They introduced the idea of the First Generation in Episode 4, which becomes a vital part of the story and greatly influenced the events in the end. The TV finale is also quite different from the book ending. In the books, Ethan and the other survivors discovered that they can no longer live in their present world due to lack of supplies, so they return to being in animated suspension.

In the TV show, Ethan died. Initially, Hodge and the other writers had come up with an ending that was exactly the same as the one in the books. However, they felt that the First Generation had become a huge part of the show that they decided to adjust the ending, writes GiveMeMyRemote.

As for a potential Season 2, Hodge told GiveMeMyRemote that there have been no official conversations yet. There has been preliminary talks due to the huge support and response to the show. He said that the show was actually creatively designed to only run for one season.
