The first trailer for “Wayward Pines” Season 2 has been released. The 2015 summer hit will return for another season, which will consist of 10 episodes.

“Wayward Pines” is based on the novel series by author Blake Crouch and created by M. Night Shyamalan. Season 2 will pick up the events at the end of the first season. There will be a new arrival who will wake up from animated suspension and discover that he is in the middle of a huge rebellion. The residents of the town will argue on how to best preserve the endangered human race.

In the short footage, which lasted only 25 seconds, the caption stated, “The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.” A quiet neighborhood sidewalk was featured, with a mailbox stating the family name “Ballinger.” There was also a house with tall pine trees behind it, followed by a scene of a couple and their baby having a picnic on the grass with a carousel nearby. Suddenly, the music turned up and a hand suddenly grabbed the steel fence. The final scene showed the season title and announced that it was coming soon on Fox.

Den of Geek writes that Matt Dillon, who played main protagonist Ethan Burke, will not be returning in the second season, after his character sacrificed himself to save the residents of Wayward Pines. Jason Patric will take on the lead role in Season 2. Other announced co-stars include DjimonHounsou and Josh Helman. There will also be returning cast members, such as Carla Gugino, Terrence Howard, Melissa Leo, Toby Jones, ShannynSossamon, Tim Griffin and Charlie Tahan. Some of the new cast members include Nimrat Kaur, Kacey Rohl and Christopher Meyer.

Although the show creators initially intended for Season 1 to feature all the elements of the novels and could have been an end in itself, the high demand for a second season compelled the executive producers to continue the story. Season 2 is expected to bring more suspense, schemes and conspiracies.

“Wayward Pines” Season 2 will premiere on May 25 on Fox. More updates and details are expected soon.
