The “Watchmen” TV series has been officially given the green signal. The superhero show, which has some high profile cast members, will premiere in 2019. Details about the production schedule are yet to be announced.

According to a report by Variety, HBO has ordered the “Watchmen” TV series. The plot will be based on the popular DC comics, in which the superheroes live in a world that has no use for them, and they are considered as outlaws.

A 2009 movie with the same name went on to win the hearts of the fans. The film featured some powerful performances by cast members Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Comedian) and Jackie Earle Haley (Rorschach). While it remains to be seen which of these superheroes from the film will make it to the TV series, Executive Producer Damon Lindelof has teased that there will be some “unknown” new characters that will be introduced on the show.

“We also intend to revisit the past century of Costumed Adventuring through a surprising yet familiar set of eyes…and it is here we will be taking our greatest risks,” Lindelof said.

“‘Watchmen’ embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel while attempting to break new ground of its own,” the official HBO description of the TV series reads. The TV series is an adaptation, but the fans will not find the same stories from the comics. Instead, this will be a brand new story that will be set in the same fictional universe.

The cast members of the TV series include Jeremy Irons, Andrew Howard, Adelaide Clemens, Frances Fisher, Louis Gossett Jr., and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Details about the characters the actors is currently being kept under wraps. More details may be revealed when the production starts.

The “Watchmen” TV series is being produced by White Rabbit in association with Warner Bros. Television.
