'The Walking Dead' Star Tyler James Williams Talks Spider-Man Role, Admits Having Read For Marvel
Tyler James Williams recently shared his interest in playing the role of Miles Morales a.k.a. Spider-Man. “The Walking Dead” star also revealed to having read for Marvel.
During an interview with Flicks And The City, Tyler James Williams revealed how much he’s interested to play as Miles Morals as suggested by Spider-Man fans. The actor admitted to being “open to the idea” since he claimed to have followed the “Miles Morales character quite a bit.”
“Yeah, I'd love to do it. I would absolutely love to do it,” he said.
Tyler James Williams said he is aware of the competition since there are reportedly currently a number of young stars rumoured for the role. Regardless, he admitted that he’d be stoked to play as Miles Morales.
In the same interview, Williams also admitted to having read for Marvel although he didn’t specify for which movie. The actor clarified that he is not trying to start a campaign for the Miles Morales role since he trusts Marvel will choose the right actor for the part.
According to Variety, Tyler James Williams was an Internet favourite to play as Miles Morales. In the 2011 Marvel comics, Morales became Spider-Man after he took over as the superhero following Peter Parker’s death. Fans had reportedly rallied their support for the actor through a campaign that in turn supported the demand for more diverse movie superheroes.
However, it’s unlikely that Miles Morales will be the next web-slinger in the “Spider-Man” reboot. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige had made it known last month that the new franchise would still focus on Peter Parker. Feige had told Collider back in April during an interview that the studio has plans to cast a high school Peter Parker around the age of 15 or 16. The 22-year-old Tyler James Williams already does not qualify to be the new Spider-Man based on the age requirement alone.
The “Spider-Man” reboot is rumoured to have been given the working title “Spider-Man: The New Avenger.” The new Peter Parker will mark his introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a cameo appearance in the 2016 film “Captain America: Civil War” before he stars in 2017 “Spider-Man” film.
