“The Walking Dead” season 7, episode 9 airs next week and fans couldn’t be more excited. It turns out that the showrunners are just as hyped as those following the series, and they’re looking forward to what Rick and Daryl has in store for Negan.

Spoiler alert: This preview contains plot details about “The Walking Dead” season 7. The season premiered Oct. 20. The series is available for Australian viewers to watch on Foxtel every Monday, 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

“The Walking Dead” executive producer Gale Anne Hurd believes Rick and company are definitely ready to go to war against Negan. Hurd said that not only are they going to “rise up,” they’re also going to “take it to Negan.” Rick and the gang will need sufficient help, though, as they are currently out of resources.

“They need a few things. They need to enlist compatriots who are going to go to war with them and they also need weapons because, sadly, they don’t have enough of either,” said Hurd in an AMC Q&A. “I think we’re going to see them solve that problem, or at least attempt to.”

She added that the showrunners are just as happy as the fans that Rick, Daryl and the rest of the group have snapped out of their collective trance. Hurd said that the last part of the midseason finale was the beginning of the group moving forward.

“They’re not going to stand there and take it anymore,” said Hurd. “The losses have been so great and they have been split up, but one of my favourite moments in the history of ‘The Walking Dead’ TV series was the hug between Rick and Daryl.”

It’s definitely great to see the survivors back together after all the hardships they went through. “The Walking Dead” executive producer Tom Luse said that it was hard for him to watch Rick kneel to Negan, but also stressed that he had no other option but to bend his knees.

“Rick’s nature is never to bow, but he knew that if he did not bow, people would continue to be killed until he did,” said Luse. “He definitely was doing this not because he thought this was the right thing to do, but because it was the only thing he could do. Negan clearly said and then demonstrated that he would continue to kill everyone, so Rick felt like he had no choice.”

“The Walking Dead” season 7, episode 9 airs on Feb. 12 (13 in Australia). The midseason premiere episode entitled “Rock in the Road” will have a longer runtime than usual at 73 minutes.
