The Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses, which is Google Glass' main competitor, is now available for preorder for $1,000. Compared to the price of a Google Glass developer or Explorer edition which is reportedly $1,500 or around £985 or $1,449 AUD, the Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses is relatively cheaper.

According to Vuzix, the Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses started shipping on Dec. 3, 2013. The company has already sent out developer and preorder units of its M100 Smart Glasses. The Vuzix shipments are expected to go out in the latter part of Dec. 2013, within two to four weeks, to new customers. Vuzix Smart Glasses will be available commercially before Google Glass because it is still in beta mode and might only be released in 2014.

The Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses is jam-packed with amazing and innovative features that make hands-free cellular use a possibility. It offers the same services offered by smartphones, but in a wearable device, similar to eyeglasses. It has a high definition (HD) 5 megapixel (MP) camera that can be used to take pictures or videos. It also can connect to the Internet through Wi-Fi. Plus, it uses Bluetooth 4.0 technology, Android and Global Positioning (GPS) system.

"The time for wearable computing devices is upon us, and we believe what Vuzix offers is the most complete and innovative in the enterprise-based smart glasses, wearable technology category," said Travers in an interview with SAP Global Vice President and Enterprise Operations Management Paul Boris.

"Due to strong demand, last spring Vuzix sold out of our gold developer kits, so after many months of working with our first developers and initial hardware, we have incorporated numerous enhancements to the M100," he added.
