“The Voice” US edition will be adding Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys in the judging panel for season 11. The incoming coaches are replacing Pharrell Williams and Christina Aguilera in the surprise shake-up.

“The musical expertise and energy these two incredibly talented women will bring to the show is remarkable,” said Paul Telegdy, president of alternative and late programming at NBC. “We’re thrilled that they’ll be joining Adam and Blake in what we know will be a magical 11th season.”

Since the show’s launch in 2011, there have been only two coaches who managed to secure permanent seats: Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. According to reports, the Maroon 5 lead singer and the country music crooner are paid US$13 million (AU$17.3 million) per season.

Season 11 will also be the first time two women will act as main coaches at the same time. The coaching panel has always composed of three men and one woman.

While Keys, 35, remains silent on her new job, Cyrus, 23, has already confirmed the report, excitedly announcing the news on Twitter.

The “Wrecking Ball” hitmaker has an active role in the current season as well. She was key advisor for all coaches – Levine, Shelton, Williams and Aguilera. Keys, on the other hand, was an advisor for Team Pharrell in the seventh season.

Past coaches of the show include CeeLo Green, Gwen Stefani, Usher and Shakira. Season 10 is still ongoing, with the next season scheduled to start in September. Stefani, who is romantically linked to Shelton, was advisor for Team Blake for the current season.
