Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine’s bald look made its television debut on “The Voice” Season 9 on Monday, and there was no one who went “ooh aah” seeing his shaved head. It, however, triggered verbal sparring between Levine and Blake Shelton.

Levine was picked on by his rival Shelton because of his bald look. The country singer compared Levine to different bald men such as Austin Powers’ nemesis Dr. Evil, Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi and Superman’s enemy Lex Luthor.

“From an honourable man... that Gandhi, down there,” Shelton joked when Levine gave his “most, honest, and heartfelt” advice to fellow mentor Gwen Stefani.

Shelton also took to Twitter to comment on Levine. “Thank goodness #Gandhi was there to help you make that decision, @gwenstefani #AdamsBald,” he wrote.

Afterwards, Levine took to Twitter to challenge Blake’s comment comparing his look to Lex Luthor. “Excuse me. Lex Luthor was bald. I have "shaved" my head. Meaning, shaved by choice. Big difference. Ok?!! Ok?!!” he said.

The 32-year-old artist sported two different hairstyles during the episode, as the episode was taped at two different times, Entertainment Tonight reported. Levine first showed up to coach his team members with hair on his head, and he later arrived for the real competition with his head shaved.

Back in July, Levine debuted his bald look on Instagram. In the photo, he is seen lying in the bed with his supermodel wife Behati Prinsloo. “She’s into me... I think…” he captioned the photo. His fans felt both surprised and distressed when this photo surfaced.

One of his fans commented, “NOOOOOOOO THE BEAUTIFUL,FLUFFY HAIR! IT’S GONE!!!” while others questioned his decision to go bald.

Meanwhile, Levine's hair has started to grow back. His hair can be seen in the recent Instagram photo posted by the songwriter-singer. In the photo, Levine is seen posing with a cake in his hands. “Transformer Maroon 5 cake. I was literally JUST thinking about how cool it would be if it actually existed. And BOOM,” he captioned this caption.

The Emmy-winning show “The Voice” returned to NBC on Monday night in the U.S., with mainstays Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Pharrell Williams and returning coach Gwen Stefani.
