“Vikings” season 5 is set to focus on Ragnar’s (Travis Fimmel) sons now that the former king is gone. Ivar (Alex Høgh Andersen) is expected to take over the reins while his brothers go their separate ways to discover new landscapes. The Boneless is going on a rampage, and he doesn’t fear death.

Spoiler alert: This article contains plot details about the fifth season of “Vikings.” An official announcement has yet to be made regarding the air date of the season premiere. Episodes from the series’ previous seasons are available for Australian viewers to watch on SBS.

The hype for the upcoming season of “Vikings” is growing as the announcement of the premiere’s release date draws near. Series creator Michael Hirst has a lot in store for the fans of the History show, and Ragnar’s sons are taking centre stage next season.

According to Hirst, Björn (Alexander Ludwig) is set to sail uncharted waters next season. Ironside has, of course, travelled across numerous watercourses in pursuit of goods and feats. But his upcoming escapade is apparently one for the record books compared to his previous exploits.

“I always knew the real Björn Ironside went into the Mediterranean and found himself in what is now Tunisia, on the edge of the Sahara,” Hirst told EW. “One of the things that was constraining us was that we couldn’t reproduce the Sahara desert in the west of Ireland.”

The show filmed sequences in Morocco for the upcoming season, and fans should see Björn on a camel as he makes his way to new terrains. Hirst promised that the sight of Vikings in the Sahara will be “exquisite and wonderful,” something never previously seen by fans on the show.

Ivar, on the other hand, is set to cause English havoc as he conquers the city of York, which won’t sit well with the fighting bishop Heahmund (Jonathan Rhys Meyers). The two warriors are going to engage in an epic rainy battle that, according to Hirst, features real torrent and “fiery” emotions. Unfortunately for the boneless one, he will be on the losing end of the ordeal.

“He’s given a chariot to travel around in, and being Ivar, he travels around in it completely recklessly, and crashes it at a very inopportune moment,” Hirst said. “The moment he’s crashed it and leans up against the wheels, he realises he’s surrounded by Saxon warriors.”

But of course, Ivar isn’t really the type of person who begs for mercy. Hirst added that the Boneless will only laugh at his captors and further provoke them because he knows they can’t kill him. Amidst the tension, however, the series creator said that the battle of York will feature a reciprocal and special connection.

“A certain amount of mutual respect will eventually develop between Ivar and Heahmund,” Hirst said about “Vikings” season 5. “The battle is completely dominated by the personalities of these two great and formidable warriors.”
