Victoria Police found a tip of a finger in a ute in the south-eastern part of the city and started looking for the person whom the finger belonged to. A man later claimed that he was the owner of the finger.

Officers started checking nearby hospitals after the finger had been found. However, they were not able to find an owner. DNA tests were conducted to know more about the owner. Victoria Police said Casey Crime Investigation Unit detectives confirmed in a statement that the owner of the finger had been identified.

The man blamed a “misadventure” for the severed little finger, which had been found under the lip of a side panel on the vehicle. An automotive business in Hallam Road is the owner of the car. The business owner found the finger on Monday while he was cleaning the vehicle. At first, he thought it was rust but later found it to be blood from the finger.

Andrew Manson, the owner of the business, said that it was “very strange” to find the “browny, rusty” stuff on a brand new car. When he went to wash the ute, he found “a little bit of meat.” Then he grabbed a bit of cardboard and pushed on it. Then, the bloodied finger fell out.

The owner of the finger is in his 30s. He came to know about the media attention his severed little finger received and made contact with the business owner. According to police, the severed finger was the result of a “misadventure” while offence occurred. The owner of the finger is believed to be in “good spirits” while losing the finger.

Manson said that the finger seemed to be the part just above the knuckle. However, there was no blood on the nearby footpath. "It was pure white, as in it looked like someone had even put it in the fridge because it was cold, it was cold over weekend,” he said. Manson added that the whole nail was on the finger. “It was like someone had cut around it and ripped it off," he said.

According to Manson, the Ute was parked in Berwick over the weekend. It was not moved until the finger was found.
