This year's VGX was pretty eventful, and focused on three different aspects of gaming to cap off the year. There have been announcements of anticipated games, announcements and demos of next-gen PS4 and Xbox One games, and the awards for this year's games.

Telltale Games' two VGX 2013 game announcements

Telltale Games is one of the developers that have quite a lot of activities and announcements going on. Aside from the fact that they recently announced release dates for The Walking Dead Season Two and The Wolf Among Us Episode Two, there are also two more games that it featured at VGX 2013.

Up first is its collaboration with Gearbox Software in making the next Borderlands game. With the great reception of Borderlands 2 and the success of The Walking Dead Game, it seems that the joint forces of the two games will make the upcoming Borderlands game even more explosive.

GameSpot reports that the game will be titled "Tales from the Borderlands" with only a release date of 2014 as the detail that has been made available as of yet. Since it's an all-new series, the report also states that there will be different characters, now that Gearbox Software is more like a collaborator rather than a creator of the new Borderlands game.

Given this, expect new characters, but the vault hunters who have been a much-loved rowdy bunch may still make cameo appearances.

Next-generation games

Also stealing the scene at the VGX 2013 are the announcements of next-generation games, which will provide a part of the life force for the PS4 and Xbox One come next year.

The first is the official announcement for the Definitive Edition of Tomb Raider coming to Xbox One and PS4 in January 28, 2014. According to IGN, Square Enix has created this version to run especially on the next-gen consoles.

The Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition will be available at $59.99, but it include a handful of must-haves, such as all of the DLCs released, the Tomb of the Lost Adventurer, six outfits for Lara, a digital mini art book, and a digital copy of The Beginning comic.

Everything about the Definitive Edition seems to be screaming next-gen realistic effects, as well as running on 1080p for the best resolution you can ever want.

Another next-gen title assumed to be coming to the PS4 is from Hello Games. Titled No Man's Sky, it's a sci-fi adventure game that puts space exploration and battle into one ambitious project.

What's more impressive is that PSX Extreme states that there are only four people onboard the project, and yet they were able to produce the kind of content seen in the official VGX 2013 trailer below. Apparently, all the scenes featured in the game is walkable and explorable--and it's not just a barren wasteland. Colourful scenery, landscapes, seascapes, and spaceships are found everywhere and indetail, and could set the bar for sci-fi games come next year.

Dying Light on the PS4 has also made waves at the VGX 2013 as it has confirmed a 1080p resolution for the console, though there has been no word on how it will be on the Xbox One.

There was also a sneak peek shown at the VGX 2014, as captured by IncGamers, and the five-minute demos shows off the sharpness and clarity played on the PS4's 1080p resolution. Check out the trailer at the link above.

Notable awards at VGX 2013

Some of the other announcements revolve around the awards that had been given out at the VGX 2013. As expected, GTA 5 takes the cake for being the overall Game of the Year. For each platform, the best games were also decked out: Gone Home for the PC, Super Mario 3D World for Nintendo, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons for Xbox, The Last of Us for PlayStation, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds for Best Handheld Game (surprisingly not Pokemon X and Y).

Injustice: Gods Among Us also won the best fighting game award. Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time bagged the Best Mobile Game. BioShock Infinite got the Best Shooter award.

According to VG 24/7, Gone Home got two awards, the other one for being the Best Independent Game. Forza Motorsport 5 got the award for Best Driving Game, while Far Cry 3L Blood Dragon was named the Best DLC.
