Velocity Micro has launched a powerful new workstation called the ProMagix G480. It may very well be the biosphere’s most powerful single workstation as it’s optimised to “solve the world’s previously thought unsolvable problems” thanks to its crazy computing prowess. The system is now available to purchase and ships internationally.

The Richmond, Virginia-based hardware manufacturer’s new robust offering can be configured with up to eight Tesla, GeForce, or Quadro GPUs. That’s almost 70 teraflops of single precision alongside 23 teraflops of double precision computing power coming from approximately 40,000 CUDA cores. Not only that, the workstation comes in deskside and 4U rack designs that equally allow users to configure and upgrade the machine with ease in the future.

“Up to 1.5 TB of DDR4 RAM, dual Intel Xeon v4 processors with 18 cores and 45 MB of cache each, and 12 hard drive slots make the G480 one of the most powerfully capable workstations in the world,” according to Velocity Micro. “That’s the type of power that turns day-long calculations onto hours, and hours to mere minutes. The best part, the G480 is fully configurable and expandable to meet your current needs and budget.”

Potential purchasers would be glad to know that the new ProMagix series workstation undergoes through a series of quality control processes before units of it are shipped. According to its maker, the punishing tests, which include an overnight burn in, lots of stress tests and extensive reboots, would break down most systems – but not the G480. Intel certified CPU cooling and high performance memory cooling help the machine become more efficient while 3,200 watts of redundant hot swap power makes it go. What’s more, it doesn’t come with any kind of preinstalled bloatware that takes a considerable amount of time to get rid of.

The Velocity Micro ProMagix G480 workstation starts at US$7,495 (AU$9,395) but interested buyers can go past US$79,000 (AU$99,000) with cosmic upgrades. It comes with a one-year standard parts and labour limited warranty along with a lifetime upgrade plan that allows customers to return their system for maintenance, upgrades and tuning.
