“Veep” has gathered a following based on its political satire that has been both timely and relevant. But in light of US President Donald Trump’s recent election and the corresponding issues, the show’s fan base has questioned how the actors, writers and showrunners will keep light of the current situation in the United States.

Actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who portrays Selina Meyer in “Veep,” confirmed that her character will no longer be in the White House when season 6 begins. As she disclosed in a Facebook live question and answer, this alone makes it a little easier to keep the overall theme of the show light instead of frightening. Nevertheless, she did add that “Day to day, [she hasn’t] found a lot of stuff funny.”

Timothy Simons, who plays Jonah Ryan and was also part of the Facebook Q&A, shared his co-star's sentiments. “Day to day, I haven’t found a lot of stuff [that Trump has done] funny.” The situation then begs to question what the cast and writers will actually do to keep the comedic charm of “Veep” on air.

As showrunner David Mendel told Decider, the script is actually worked on a year or so before the scenes are filmed and aired. So while the public might have its eyes set on a parody, the reality is that the script was completed long before President Trump took his seat in the White House. However, there is no doubt that the “Veep” writers are keeping their ears and eyes out, which means that there may be the occasional commentary that pokes at the current administration.

Mendel also pointed out that if the show were to play around with current situations, it may not actually be relevant at the time the episode airs. “What seems like a very important story right now may be an unimportant story in three weeks when he -- I don’t know -- whatever he does next,” Mendel said. “Trying to parody recent specifics is not gonna work for us. I think we try and sort of take a longer view, like, ‘What is this about?’” he added.

“Veep” season 6 has been confirmed to air on April 10 at 10:30 p.m. ET on HBO US. Australian audiences can watch out for the same on Foxtel. However, the network has yet to confirm what time the show will actually air in Australia.
