As “The Vampire Diaries” reaches its end, a grand reunion to treat its loyal followers is bound to happen. Fortunately, spoilers reveal that producers will actually be doing that. However, those who will be returning might not be who fans are expecting.

Spoiler alert! This article contains “The Vampire Diaries” spoilers. Read on if you would like to know what happens next before the next episode airs.

The CW has released teaser photos for the series finale and it shows that Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino) is, indeed, back in Mystic Falls. He might have died at the hands of Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) earlier, but it looks like there is no stopping him from making another appearance before the show ends for good. The newly released pictures show Tyler in a staredown with his murderer and, as expected, he looks pissed.

While fans may be delighted to see someone from a previous season, spoilers confirm that Tyler will not be the only familiar face that will be coming back. The promo photos also show that Caroline’s (Candice King) mother will appear again. It is to be noted that this character lost the fight against cancer in season 6.

Both characters have returned, thanks to Sybil (Nathalie Kelley), who put Damon in a catatonic state. This causes Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Caroline to enter his mind so that they could save him. While in there, both of them will encounter familiar faces, even more than Tyler and Caroline’s mother.

Of course, the reappearance of these two characters is a sweet sight especially for those who have been following “The Vampire Diaries” since its earlier seasons. However, some might be disappointed that Nina Dobrev has not yet been confirmed to return.

Her character is dead and buried and her resurrection could mean the death of someone else. However, her reappearance on the show is not precluded and can still happen. “The Vampire Diaries,” after all, surely cannot end for good without its original star.

The next episode of “The Vampire Diaries” will air on Friday, January 27, on The CW in the US. It will also air in Australia on FOX8.
