The Salvatore brothers are currently in danger following the events that happened in the mid-season finale of “The Vampire Diaries” (TVD) Season 7. Executive producer Caroline Dries teases on what will go down when the CW TV series returns on Jan. 29, 2016.

Spoiler Alert: This feature contains major “The Vampire Diaries” Season 7 spoilers.

In an interview with TVLine, Dries teased that “The Vampire Diaries” Season 7 will return with a “really cool concept episode.” Dries further added that “The Vampire Diaries” Season 7, episode 10 will “emotionally and plot-wise” deal with the fallout from the mid-season finale episode titled “Cold As Ice.”

The CW Network’s promo video for “The Vampire Diaries” Season 7, episode 10 teases that Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) has been dead for three months after Julian (Todd Lasance) stabbed him with the Phoenix Stone Sword. Damon’s friends are also working on a plan to rescue Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley), who was also stabbed with the sword by Heretic Nora Hildegard (Scarlett Byrne).

However, Caroline Forbes (Candice King) wants to carry out their mission faster because they may not be able to bring back the younger Salvatore vampire if Julian burns Stefan’s body. Additionally, there seems to be a problem with Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham) and Caroline’s plan because of Damon’s behaviour.

Damon believes that the things happening around him are not real to the point that he hurt a pregnant Caroline in the promo video. When it comes to the storyline on Caroline’s pregnancy, Dries teased that there will be a bit of a time jump in the new year because the twins will have to emerge sooner or later.

Dries further revealed that the TVD fans will continue to see Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino) through the flashforward scenes and finally meet the new character Rayna (Leslie-Anne Huff), a vicious vampire hunter, in the second-half episodes of “The Vampire Diaries” Season 7. “We’ll get to see her present-day story and then everything will click when you see her in the future,” Dries teased.

As for Huff’s striking resemblance to former TVD cast member Nina Dobrev (Elena Gilbert), Dries stated with a laugh that it was definitely just a coincidence. Dries revealed that they decided to add Huff to the cast because the 31-year-old “NCIS” and “Bones” actress is perfect for the vampire hunter role.

“The Vampire Diaries” Season 7 will return with a new airing schedule in January 2016. The CW TV series will move from Thursdays to Friday nights starting Jan. 29, 2016 at 8/7c.
