For those who are in a long distance relationship with their significant other, celebrating Valentine’s Day requires effort of a different kind. They aren’t single but they can’t also do a full-blown celebration with their partner miles away from them. There are products that can help LDR couples in reducing the distance between them, though, and they are perfect as gifts for Valentine’s Day.

Video calls are always, but hearing the other person’s voice isn’t just enough sometimes. On this special day, some people crave for more, and that’s why there are products that are designed to give more. Here are some unique products that can help couples in long distance relationships become a little closer despite the space between them.

The world’s smallest post office

It’s old-fashioned letter-sending in the tiniest form. Leafcutter Designs went the traditional route but with a teeny detail: the enveloped letters are miniscule. The messages inside are customised by clients and handwritten by the staff. The US-based company also sends tiny packages, which contain teeny items like dice, tiny soccer ball, a toy pear, miniature champagne glasses and a microscopic fire extinguisher. The letters, complete with tiny stamp and wax seal, cost US$10.50 (AU$14.80), while international shipping to Australia is US$12 (AU$17).

Oversized greeting cards

Sometimes, though, a lover’s message cannot be contained in a few centimetres; it needs a lot of space. In contrast to the abovementioned item, there are life-size greeting cards that can be sent around the world to a recipient. Big Funny Cards have options from 24-inch cards to as tall as almost 6 feet. The company uses UPS shipping company for international orders.

Edible bouquets

Flowers never go out of style, but for a lot of men and women, chocolates trump flowers any time. So why not both? A chocolate bouquet might just be the two-in-one solution to Valentine’s Day woes. Edible Blooms delivers chocolate flowers and edible bouquets made of fresh fruits nationwide. Another merchant worth checking out is Taste Buds, which offers free delivery Australia-wide for its chocolate bouquets.

Pillow Talk

Zayn Malik’s newly released single has a similar name, but this Pillow Talk can do more than show the former One Direction crooner in a steamy music video with Gigi Hadid. Little Riot ’s neat invention allows users to listen to their partner’s heartbeat in real time. The device comes in pairs, with a wrist contraption for each partner to wear, and another one that is put under the pillow so the other person can hear the other’s heartbeat in real time.

It was put up on Kickstarter for pre-order and is expected to roll out in July.

Message in a bottle

In the movies, people send messages in a bottle into the sea to let people know they are stranded in an island. The method would not likely be effective in real life, seeing that bottles could drift aimlessly and be lost forever in the sea. However, messages in a bottle could be effective in wooing someone in other parts of the world. Timeless Message offers lovely bottles with classic-looking scroll messages that can be sent to recipients in select countries around the world. Overseas shipping from the US is a little pricey at about US$150 (AU$213), though, as the gift of elegance can be expensive sometimes.

Telegrams

With modern technology making communication easy and cheap these days, there is still something to be said about receiving missives using a retro technique. No one probably sends a telegram anymore; there’s text messaging for that now. However, Valentine’s Day is meant to be extraordinary and fun. Telegrams can do that. Telegram Stop sends messages from clients to recipients using the antiquated method (complete with –(STOP)- as replacement for periods, as well as the limited character break) for just US$7.15 (AU$10.13) for both US and international deliveries.

The gift of touch

If there’s one thing that couples in long distance relationships can’t do, it’s to touch each other. It’s just not possible with the distance between them and all. They can, however, feel each other’s touch with these revolutionary bracelets. Bond Touch bracelets come in pairs so the wearers can send vibrational messages to each other by touching their own wrist.

Kwamecorp is still currently working on a new version of Bond (the old one was too expensive to make and therefore was not produced) so the product is still not available in the market. However, pre-orders are already rolling.
