It’s a little over a week before Valentine’s Day, but some couples are already on a panic mode looking for a romantic way to celebrate. Sometimes, the best kinds of gifts are those that come without any price tag. A short but meaningful trip around the neighbourhood can already be a present in itself. Here are some places to check out for a truly romantic escapade.

Swan Valley (Perth)
Wines are usually associated with a romantic dinner, but they can be downright expensive. At Swan Valley, however, couples can have their share of best-tasting wines for free. Lancaster Wines, nestled in the middle of the vines, offer a free wine tasting trip in the Tasting Shed. In addition, couples can also enjoy free bites of various types of cheese to go along with their wine samples.

Scenic Rim (Brisbane)
A trip down memory lane can be just what a couple needs for Valentine’s Day. Those who are up for a scenic drive can try the Spring Bluff Drive at Scenic Rim. Travel along the notoriously steep Main Range and take in the breathtaking views of landscaped gardens, as well as historic buildings. Couples can also have a romantic picnic or barbeque at the Spring Bluff Railway Station, which is a heritage-listed site.

Stirling Linear Park (Adelaide)
This year, forget a pricey meal at a five-star restaurant and opt for a picnic outside. There are quite a number of scenic spots around Australia where people can dine with their loved ones for free, such as the Stirling Linear Park. While enjoying homemade dishes, couples can take a look at the park’s four reserves, namely the Woorabinda Lake Reserve, Stirling Park, Madurta Reserve, and Hender Reserve.

National Library of Australia (Canberra)
Book lovers need not sacrifice their favorite hobby on Valentine’s Day. Surprisingly, a date at a library can be romantic. Couples can spend the day perusing one-of-a-kind book collection or galleries inside a library. For example, the National Library of Australia offers more than six million items, mostly found in the reading rooms. It also features the Treasures Gallery where various artefacts can be found, and some tours are offered for free.
