A motorist traversing onto a four-lane road in Utah was shocked to her core when she chanced upon the busy thoroughfare a one-year-old crawling baby.

The baby, according to the mother, got out the backyard after he was taken out of his crib by his 7-year-old older sister to play. Police investigation revealed the child's mother had taken a rest after putting her baby boy in his crib. She said she wasn't aware that her elder daughter had taken her little brother to the backyard.

But on Friday evening at around 5:45 p.m., the baby boy was seen crawling into the four-lane street.

"As the driver got closer she realized it was a baby crawling across the road in the number one lane," Lt. Dennis Vincent told KSL5. "She picked the baby up and located a residence where she thought the baby belonged."

The driver immediately called police in Brigham City, 60 miles north of Salt Lake City. The baby has crawled less than a block when the motorist found him in the lane closest to the sidewalk.

"We all know how quickly kids can get away and luckily this didn't end in a tragedy," Vincent said.

He added it was unlikely the police will press charges against the mother. But the incident has been reported to the state's Division of Child and Family Services. They are now investigating the case.
