A father in Utah blasted an attempt to kidnap his five-year-old daughter from her bed at 4.30 a.m. after he suddenly woke up and spotted a man carrying her across his lawn. The kidnapper has been identified as Troy Morley.

Troy had entered the house through an open door at about 4:30 a.m on Nov. 7. The house was located at Sandy, a middle-class suburb south of Salt Lake City, according to the Police Sergeant, Dean Carriger. Troy first entered the basement and rifled through everything he came across, when he suddenly stumbled across the sleeping child. He just picked her up and carried her upstairs and then outside into the lawn, which created some noise and woke her parents.

The girl's father spotted the kidnapper, screamed, ran outside and confronted him, demanding that he should give back the child. The child's mother, too, heard her voice, and found that he had carried her daughter outside. The abductor did not get into a confrontation, but just handed over the child and ran from the scene. The parents called 911, and the mother, crying, narrated the whole story. "My husband ran out there and got her from him. But he took my daughter," she said, according to ABC News.

"It obviously was a very scary, traumatic situation," Sandy Police-Sergeant Dean Carriger said, according to ABC News. He added that the "sanctity" of homes is deep, and someone entering the house to grab a child is one of the "worst nightmares a parent can face."

Officers drew a perimeter and launched a search with dogs, according to NY Daily News.

The man plunged into another house just two blocks away through a doggy door in an attempt to escape. The dogs there had woken its residents, who screamed out at cops to nab the man, . The police captured the 48-year-old kidnapper outside the second home due to a police dog that bit him in the upper part of his shoulder. He was unknown to the family, and it is not clear whether he had arranged the kidnapping according to a plan, or whether he had just decided to enter the house.

Morley was put under arrest and booked on charges of "child kidnapping, burglary, trespassing and resisting arrest," according to Foxnews.
