The two-year-old boy who was dragged and taken by an alligator in Disney’s resort in Orlando, Florida is still missing. The alligator, believed to have sneaked into the Disney property undetected, snatched the boy who was wading in the water by the edge of the Seven Seas Lagoon at about 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings told the media. Nine hours after the attack (6 a.m. in Orlando), authorities have released a statement, saying rescuers have not yet found the boy.

UPDATED: Authorities have found the toddler 16 hours after he was snatched. He was found 10 to 15 yards from where he was attacked. His body was intact albeit with few puncture wounds. The lake is about 200 acres in size and 14-feet deep in certain parts, CNN reports. Police are saying the alligator may have drowned the boy.

The boy was with his parents and 4-year-old sibling. His father quickly tried to pull him back from the alligator’s mouth. But the alligator had quickly swam away. The dad suffered minor arm injuries during the wrestle, the sheriff said.

“It’s my understanding the father was there nearby and the child was playing in the water, just a foot or so into the water, and the alligator came up,” Sheriff Demings told reporters. Authorities also said there was a lifeguard on duty, but he was too far away to help, NPR reports.

“Everyone here at Walt Disney World is devastated by this tragic accident,” Disney has said in a statement. Orlando Sentinel has a video of the media briefing conducted by the Orange County sheriff. In the video, Demings said they are still doing a “search and rescue operation.”

This is the third in a series of massive tragedies that have struck Orlando, Florida since the weekend, when “The Voice” alum Christina Grimmie was killed by a gunman on Saturday, and 49 others were massacred at the Pulse nightclub on Sunday.

On Twitter, Don Champion of CBS confirmed Walt Disney will be closing all of its resort beaches in connection to the tragic alligator attack. See his tweet below:
